Mattress " PAD"
By Joanna
Just thought I'd point out to all of you that are saying the "mattress" is too thin, it's NOT a Mattress, it is a Mattress PAD! So yes, you would need to buy a mattress or have your child sleep on a pad only which would be awful. Think you all should Read everything then you might not be so shocked. =)

Perfect for tight living!
By W. Baker
Space was a huge issue for us in our small bungalow. This crib fit the bill! It was relatively easy to assemble and it looks great! It certainly is not one of these huge, fancy, sleigh cribs, but when you're working w/ tight quarters, who cares? It's also light enough that we can move it around if we need to when we have guests staying with us.My son is in the 80th percentile in height for his age and STILL fits in it perfectly fine at 18 months. So, whoever's kids wasn't fitting in at 14 months...It's also the only mini crib I found that turns into a twin bed (you do need to buy the rails separately). The reason I didn't give it five stars was that the mattress that comes with it is terrible (but it was easy to find a replacement at our local store for $30)

Nice crib for small spaces, not a family heirloom (you get what you pay for)
By Caution: New Mom in Training
Living in an apartment in a large city, space is at a premium. We wanted a safe, attractive mini crib that wouldn't break the bank- we got it in this crib. It was easy to assemble (under an hour for my husband and me, while I was 7 months pregnant), and it feels sturdy and seems safe. The finish is attractive but not particularly durable as we found out shortly after assembly when our cats explored the crib and left several deep and noticeable scratches. As other reviewers have noted, the pad that comes with the crib is just that, and could be used as a mattress topper, not a mattress. We, in the end, had no use for it. We ordered the DaVinci mattress (see amazon's "buy these together" feature) which worked, as you would expect, great. The biggest problem with this and all mini cribs is finding sheets that fit. Our solution was to make our own with little time and expense (internet search mini crib sheet tutorial for several useful sets of instructions). As a last note, it looks like it will be large enough to get him through his crib-sleeping years.
