5Great projector, if a little dated
By Ben
I have had one of these projectors for about 5 years now. It provides really great contrast ratio for a projector that's under $1000 (I bought it at $800 in 2007). The image is bright and visible even when it's light out (although, having a lot of light in the room will reduce visibility). It provides a consistently sharp image when watching HD video.Compared with more modern projectors, it still does well, but it does not display 1080p, only 720p or 1080i. That said, it's a great projector if you don't want to plunk down some serious cash for a $3000 projector. It is a little bit noisy, if you're used to regular LCD/LED/Plasma TVs, because of the lamp fan, but the noise is pretty easily drowned out if you have a good set of speakers.I had to replace the original lamp after 1,500 hours. The documentation said I'd have to replace it between 2,000 and 3,000 hours, but I think the life of the lamp got severely hindered by a power surge. Maybe 20 or 30 hours of use after the power surge happened, the lamp cut out for good.I have it mounted to a ceiling mount about 15 feet (4.6 meters) from the screen on which it's projecting, and it creates about a 114 inch (2.9 meter) diagonal image. It's an all-around great projector, and I use it mainly for watching movies or playing games.

5Worth the money
By A. Takemiya
I have used this trimmer about 4 times now. Twice to do some major trimming of bamboo. My last trimmer, a Black & Decker model, did not have the power to cut bamboo. The Makita is not only a lot more powerful but it is much quieter too. It is also heavier but I don't really notice the extra weight when I am actully using it.Overall, I am quite happy with this trimmer and would not hesitate to recommend it.

5Great Trimmer
By Lawrence J. Oresky
This is a great product. I've read reviews that complained about the dual safety handles. Not a problem. These "dead man" switches span the entire length of the handle of which they are a part. Very easy to use. I only wish they had a 30" model!

5Solid hedge trimmer
By Suess PhD
Well constructed trimmer and perfect size. It is a little heavy if you plan on hours of trimming, but hey it is a solid well-built machine. Cuts quickly and accurately. The dead man switch is no problem in my opinion - I got used to this safety feature after about 2 minutes. I would recommend this trimmer.

5excellent grinder
By Marius V
Lot of power in this grinder, very good at cancelling vibration, quite heavy, but then, it's a 9 inch, what can you expect. I gave it a beating even at cutting up concrete and brick, and it works like a charm. Definitely worth the money.

5Well balanced and powerfull
By Keith
I bought this in order to cut compound miters on brick that I was using to build a mailbox pillar to match my house. Being from Europe I was a little skeptical that a 120V tool would be powerful enough to do this, but matched with a nice Gila diamond blade I was able to do clean straight cuts with minimal breakage in a very reasonable amount of time. Overall I'm very pleased with this tool.

5Makita 7" Recon Grinder
By V. Jordan
I bought this grinder to upgrade from a similar sized old Black & Decker unit that had served me well for almost 30 years. Unfortunately it had a push on push off switch which I felt was a safety hazard for anyone who might not be focused on proper usage of this type of tool. The Makita turned out to be a pleasant surprise. New, light, powerfull and an adjustable shield (wish I had one on the B&D)to direct the grinding dust and sparks away from the operator were the immediate highlights. The Makita is of the quality that I've become accustomed to using other Makita products. It also has a spring loaded on/off trigger with a lock on if you prefer. The recon item is priced significanly lower than the factory new, however the differences between the recon and what I perceive a new unit to be, I could not discern. I would highly recommend this product.

5Another Makita Winner
By Michael W. OBrien
I recently purchased this Makita HR4010C,1 9/16 11 amp SDS-Max rotary hammer with AVT primarily to help me dig holes for posts and plants in my rocky, clay soil (called chert) in Northeast Alabama. Also wanted to use it for breaking up concrete and mortar to put in a new walkway. I also bought 12 inch and 18 inch bull points(Hitachi) and a Dewalt clay spade (as recommended in other reviews, but not sold on Amazon) and a scaling chisel. I had read good reviews on other sites prior to purchase. This Makita breaks up concrete with the bull point easily, no vibration. I used it again today to help dig several post holes (the first 18 inches of 24) and using the clay spade for the first foot and, then the 18 inch bull point for the deeper work.It worked great, and again no vibration. Now I need a 24 inch bull point. The Dewalt clay spade digs fine too.I have other Makita tools and have never been disappointed in their quality or durability. This HR4010C is worth what I paid for it and I can recommend it without hesitation, because if you want a tool of this type that will do the job and last, it will cost you for sure.I am an average-sized person( 5 ft 10 in,167 lbs),65 years old, and I handled it easily. Be certain to use the provided grease for the hub end of the implements and clean it off after using them . Follow-up/ It's Sept.08 and this tool is still going strong after many projects. It's worth all that I paid for it. No problems. pathdoc60 Follow-up / Feb. 2011 and this tool is still working great. I can't plant bushes or trees without it in my rocky/clay soil. Also have used it for breaking up concrete and bricks which it does with ease using the bullpoint and/or scaling chisel. The clay spade is a must-have for planting. As always, another great Makita tool.

5Hammer Time
By Tyman
Busting up concrete and being a plumber go hand in hand. I use a Bosch at work but after banging concrete for hours the noise and vibration get to you. The Makita seems more quiet and I definitely feel less vibration. The D-handle is also very nice and I am addicted to it for detail work like chipping concrete around a pipe. This rotary does a great job.The case is HUGE blow mold plastic. It has room for a few bits but not many. Bits for this girl are not stocked at your local stores. So, running down the depot for a 1" bit isn't going to happen. You either have it or your order it. Or if your a contractor you can get them at a supply house like I did.If your a homeowner I would say this rotary is overkill, unless you are going to use the clay spade attachment for digging. The smallest bit you would want to run is a 3/8".

5There's kill, and then there's OVERKILL
By S. Yu
"This kicks arse!"I was torn between getting a smaller hammer and this one. I'm glad I purchased this. Used it in a couple of projects and this thing is powerful, without the kick of a mule.It eats tiles set in concrete. Scaled it off the underlayment like scraping Oreo filling from the cookie. Started the project with a hammer and chisel and it barely dented any of the tiles. Whipped this bad boy and the tiles start flyin' off the concrete.Chips and rips off old concrete like it wasn't there. In the basement, the previous owners put in an illegal bathroom. Wanted to flatten the floor after ripping out the walls. Realized that the tiles were mortared to a 1 1/2" cement substrate that they poured to raise the bathroom floor height. Try whacking that out with a chisel and hammer. This machine just eats it away!Needed to drill through cinder block and brick wall to install a vent. Slapped on a 6" core bit, and before you know it, you can stick a human head in the wall.Safety note! Remember you goggles, dust mask, ear plugs AND gloves. Being a powerful machine just short of a jackhammer, concrete shards and dust fly at ridiculous speeds and can easily make you a one eyed jack. Concrete dust is not healthy either and without a dust mask, it can give your silicosis and make you sound like you have TB. Hammering concrete is not a quiet job either and you can easily have ringing ears without ear plugs. Kills your hearing like a glock fired next to your ear.

4Different kind of sander
By R. Anderson
The wheel sander consists of ~ 4" long cylinder with bristles (steel/nylon in various grits) extending out from it. It is very useful to clean up rough sawn timbers and in finer grits to raise the grain.Raising the grain can give your pieces a pleasant 'tactile' dimension as well.If the rough sawn timber is too bristly, this tool can reduce to eliminate the bristles. It is good for removing surface stains, grit & grime prior to finishing. The tool is of Makita heavy-duty journeyman quality. Not a cheap throw-away.

makita wheel sander is a work horse. no matter what application you may choose to use this wheel sander. I use it in woodworking to sculpt timbers. The wheel sander raises the grain of the wood. taking away the softer pulp wood between the grain.Givind you a weatherd or rustic look to your wood or timbers. its a pricy tool but has many uses. will also strip paint rust just about remove any thing on any surfaced. amazon and there supliers were very prompt with delivery very happy.

5Great specialty sander
By M. PRESTON
I bought the wire wheel for my Makita 9741 Wheel Sander. It is a quick way to open the grain or age wood in appearance. It works great on larger flatter areas but not so well into small recesses ( to get into tight areas I use a similar but much smaller wire wheel in a 1/4 inch die grinder). It's pretty much useless on tight grained woods like mahogany or poplar, but gives a great old and weatherbeaten look to more open grain woods like oak or ash. I have also found that I can make inexpensive pine or cedar look as if it sat in the desert sun for 50 years in a matter of minutes. Experiment with different types of wood till you find the results that you like. The abrasive nylon brush supplied with the sander may be useful for aging a painted finish, but is useless for aging bare wood. The sander itself has functioned flawlessly and wheel changes are simple to accomplish. This tool allows me to work on complex shapes such as moldings but as above it wont get into small recesses.

5Can't believe this is battery powered...
By Custom Finish Carpenter
I have used this rotary hammer drill for up to 3/4" holes in concrete and tile and it is nothing short of awesome. I also own the Bosch Bulldog, which is the industry standard in small rotary hammer drills, and this cordless Makita performs right up there with it, making short work of whatever I put it up against. While the Bosch is a great hammer drill as well, the portability of the 18 volt Li-Ion Makita really makes this drill shine, highly recommended for anyone who requires a portable rotary hammer with enough power to do the job.

5great portable rotary hammer
By StevieQ
This Makita LXT 18v Li-on D-handle rotary hammer has 1.9 joules (or 1.4 ft*lb) of impact energy at up to 4000 blows per minute. By comparison, Makita's corded version has 2.7 joules (or 2.0 ft*lb) of impact energy at up to 4500 blows per minute, making the cordless version about 70% as powerful as the corded version, which isn't bad. I can't complain because the trade-off for portability is power and speed.I bought this cordless rotary hammer specifically to drill 5/8" holes in concrete to set anchor bolts for my deck's footings. I can drill each 5/8" hole up to 6" deep in a minute or two, but it drains the battery at a fairly quick clip. My rough recollection is that it can only drill at most 2 of the 6"-deep, 5/8" diameter holes before the battery needs recharging. Based on my experience with the 5/8" holes, I have no doubt it is capable of drilling up to 7/8" holes.I also used a 1" chisel bit on it and it worked really fast to chip concrete to set the footings. All in all, I am happy with this purchase despite the short battery life.
