Super!

I wanted an electronic level and when wandering through Home Depot a few weeks ago, bought a Husky 24" electronic/digital level (about $60). What a disaster. It wasn't repeatable and the display takes too long to get to a reading. For instance, putting it on a perfectly level surface, the readout will read 0.2 degrees, then after about 8 seconds, 0.1 degree, then after about another 8 seconds, 0.0 degree...or sometime it will stay at 0.1 degree. Meanwhile, the bubble vial is exactly in the middle - showing level. Putting it on a 0.1 degree slope (easily visible on the bubble level) gives readings of either 0.1 degree or 0.0 degree, and again with the same 8 second or so lag. And, there is NO calibration function, so it it's off, there's nothing that can be done about it.Then I tried an M-D Products 24" digital level (about $120). When I tested it in the level position (it did respond much quicker than the Husky), the bubble showed level and the digital readout showed 0.0 - great! But in the plumb position, when the bubble showed level, the digital readout showed something other than 0.0. BUT, it has a calibration function, so I thought I'd just calibrate it and I'd be good to go. Well, calibration needs to be done in 4 steps for the level position AND 4 steps for the plumb position, totaling 8 steps of roughly 10 seconds each and I never did get the level & plumb readings to match the bubble and read 0.0 - both at the same time. When I unpacked the Stabila (about $185) and put it on a level surface, the bubble showed level and the DUAL display (really cool feature) showed 0.0. When I checked it for plumb, the bubble showed plumb and the digital readouts showed 0.0! And, it's highly repeatable. Also, calibration is one step for level and plumb - put it on a level surface and adjust until the bubble shows exactly level. Press the CAL button twice and hold for 4 seconds - done; both level & plumb! The MODE button/feature is great allowing for setting a slope in either degrees, percentage of slope, millimeters/meter, or inches/foot. The REF button/function allows setting any angle to read 0.0 so angles can be transferred or the same angle can be used in a number of places (the M-D level doesn't have this feature). The HOLD button allows you to capture a reading when you can't easily see the display. The SOUND function starts beeping slowly at 2 degrees from level or plumb and gets faster and faster as you approach level or plumb. The tone becomes solid at level or plumb. Great feature - the M-D only beeps exactly at level or plumb. And the removable end caps have rubber protrusions that allow the level to be held against a wall without slipping - which for me is a big plus.Don't sell short the dual display. While the other levels have a slanted display so it can theoretically be read from the side or from above, the result is that reading from above is not that easily done - try using it to check the slope of a floor, for instance. And finally, it comes with a padded case!

Excellent product from Germany

Straight forward features with simple operation. But every feature you want or expect including overhead, upside down display read-out. Workmanship and quality in the upper percentile. Still new but appears to be rugged and reliable. The 24" version is a perfect fit; not too long for fitting in confined spaces and can be used with longer, conventional levels (cheaper) to take care of long walls, floors, etc.

Awesome tool!

I purchased the 16" version of Stabila's smart electronic level and cannot say a bad thing about it. I had a MD 24" unit before purchasing this one and it beats it hands down. The display is visible from working over top of the unit as well as from the side.I do a lot of traveling for my work and going through airport security with a 24" unit was tough, the 16" unit makes it all the easier. You can't beat this level-period.
