Very Attractive and Heavy Duty Mailbox, but could be better

When I received this mailbox from Amazon, I quickly noticed how heavy it was. Given that aluminum is much lighter than steel, the weight of this hand crafted cast aluminum mailbox was a bit surprising. As far as quality of the metal and appearance, this is a 5 star mailbox. I took one star off because, for the price, it could have come with a couple of extras (see below).First of all, the mailbox doesn't come with screws (preferably stainless) and anchors for hanging in brick/block walls on house. Again, at this price, you'd expect an extra like that. Secondly, the lid is very loud when you drop it. You may think I'm exaggerating... but let me tell you, this lid is so loud that neighbors two blocks over would know when my mail was being delivered. That said, I placed some of those small round cushion stick-on pads in strategic places in order to dampen some of the clang from the lid. Now, so long as you don't drop the lid, it doesn't make a loud clanging noise. Again, however, for this price I'd have expected the manufacturer to have addressed this issue.All of the above said, I'm very happy with the appearance and quality of the material. I should also note that the lid appears rain (and maybe even tornado) resistant. It looks very nice on the front of the house, but I had to take off one star since, at seventy bucks, a 5 star review would require the manufacturer to at least address the issues I mentioned.***UPDATE*** Finally figured out a solution to the clanging. I originally placed cushions in certain areas to dampen sound, but then used one of those clear rubber/plastic "feet" for appliances and placed it in the middle of lid, about an inch up from bottom of nose of lid. I had to use some super glue to hold it in place, but since the pad was a bit thicker than the other cushions, it just about eliminated the loud (and sometimes rather annoying) clanging noise of the mailbox lid.

Nice mailbox

Good color, good size, seems to be a watertight lid, just enough decoration. You will need your own mounting screws for block walls.

Perfect mailbox for our home

The box is deep and holds letters, magazines and over-sized mail. We love that the mail is protected from rain and moisture. It is a very heavy well made and beautiful item. We like hearing the lid close when the postman inserts the mail. That alerts us that the mailed has been delivered. It was not that easy to install; however, it was worth the effort. We get lots of compliments on the mailbox. I would recommend it to everyone.
