4Great system once you tweak the settings
By John K.
I got this system because it was highly rated on several sites, and because it was one of the lowest cost sets that has two optical inputs on the back of the receiver (the only way to confirm that before buying was to check Crutchfield's site.) I concur that it is worthy of a high rating; I go on to explain why it didn't get five stars from me.I used to be the type who would read my user manuals cover to cover, but then I grew up and suddenly didn't have time anymore. The receiver that comes with this kit is one device that you will need to actually read your manual to get the most out of it.For instance, out of the box, the receiver is set up to not use the subwoofer for stereo signals. That's because the front-left and front-right speakers are set to "large," which means they don't need subwoofer help. But the speakers that come in the kit are clearly in need of subwoofer help. The troubleshooting guide covers subwoofer problems, but not this problem. So I had to read through everything to figure out what might be wrong. At least I figured it out, though, and I'm happy with the sound.Another quirk is that if you hold down a volume button on the remote, the volume changes too quickly, so you're likely to overshoot the volume you want. I'm getting used to it, but it's still very difficult to get the volume just right. Maybe the manual has something to say on this too. (The device is very configurable; that's definitely a plus.)

4Little bit over priced for discontinued AV receiver
By Terence Shea
This is my first time buying HTIB.I have been looking into HTIB systems for some times. Living in an apartment,my choice was limited to smaller but powerful systems. I looked at Yamaha YHT-380 first then saw Sony DAV-IS10 on craiglist for cheaper price. I was going toward Sony until tech savvy coworker suggested Denon system. My order arrived quickly and I was amazed how hugh the package was. Set up was not difficult since I downloaded the manual a week before and study all the connections and plan ahead. I connected my motorola HD DVR through composite and DVD through HDMI. Only thing confused me was A and B on speakers setup. After the set up, I thought I was missing two more speakers for surround. Since this receiver doesn't have auto tune up like other system, I spent entire day turning up, shifting speakers locations. Having listened only 2.1 system before, this 5.1 system just blown me away. Subwoofer was strong enough to rattled my windows. The song is quite clean and crisp. Nelly Furtado song better than my JVC stereo system. Enya CD song so good I almost fall a sleep. Only negative thing was the system doesn't have HDMI connection only the DVD player included has HDMI. I later found out this system has been discontinued. latest av receiver has 2 HDMI in and 1 HDMI out but not really problem, composite connection wasn't bad at all.I probably upgrade the receiver when I have enough experience and extra money. I felt the system package was alittle bit pricy since you can buy better Denon receiver for $349 at Amazon. I think not bad for 3 packages of receiver, dvd player and speakers. I would recommand this system for newbie like me.

5Denon DHT487-DV 5.1-Channel DVD Home Theater System
By Noel Phares
This package is really solid. It is Denon's early move into the "HT in a Box" concept, plus some legendary quality from Denon. Sounds wonderful, components are high quality, plenty enough headroom for a 18 x 22 w/ vaulted wood ceiling room. The satellites are a very nice smaller but beefy build. The control interface is not very intuitive is my only complaint. The powered subwoofer is strong and very controllable. Honestly however, I am not overly experienced in HT, but I do know what I like! Strongly Recommended!
