5Low power consumption, reliable, quiet.
By T. Riehl
I use nothing else in my 5000 gallon Koi pond. I run two skimmers, for redundancy and for waterfall volume. I ran other brands before, but they were noisier, used a lot more power and didn't last very long. I run two Hy Drive 4800 GPH models on about 500W total. That's only 2/3 of a Horsepower to move 9600 GPH. Never have had a GFI issue with a Hy Drive, either. Caution, never run dry; make sure you dunk it thoroughly and fill the pump cavity with water before initial start. Because XXX happens, I also run the pump input power through a float switch tied to the side of the pump, just above the intake.

2Died after one year
By D Dot
I loved this pump when I got it. It is quiet, makes the waterfall full, and it fits nicely in the pump station with its horizontal orientation and top piping. However, after one year in service (actually less than that since it doesn't run through the winter months in Ohio - it is cleaned and stored indoors) it just died. No obvious reason for the failure. It was $250 when I bought July 2011. It's $243 in August 2012. I can't see paying that much money for 8 months of operation tops. It is especially disappointing since the other reviews suggest such long operation. Must have purchased the only lemon???

5great pump for the money
By coot
The first one of these pumps we had lasted about 4 years running 24/7. Saw no reason not to get another.
