Product Description

Tripp Lite''s Smart Online SU1000XLa on-line, double conversion UPS protects critical server, networking or telecommunications equipment from blackouts, brownouts, voltage fluctuations and surges in an attractive all-black upright tower form factor. Large capacity 1kVA/800 watt UPS continuously converts incoming AC to DC, then back to perfect sine wave AC output at 120V AC (+/-2%). Removes harmonic distortion, fast electrical impulses, frequency fluctuations and other hard-to-solve power problems not addressed by other UPS systems. True sine wave output and zero transfer time offers guaranteed compatibility with all equipment types. Includes 6 UPS supported outlets. 2 single-outlet load banks can be independently controlled via a software interface to selectively reboot remote equipment, or automatically shed less critical loads to extend battery runtime for the most critical equipment. Extended runtime available with optional BP24V34, BP24V15RT2U, BP24V28-2U or BP24V70-3U external battery packs. Includes slot for internal SNMP/web card, plus DB9 enhanced serial monitoring port for unattended shutdown, remote control and monitoring of UPS system and power data. Network management interfaces support simultaneous communications via USB port, DB9 serial port and SNMPWEBCARD slot. HID-compliant USB interface enables integration with built-in power managemen

4Almost perfect....
By William Sheridan Jr.
This works perfectly.... but only has one flaw. The fan is so loud that it sounds like it is taking of for flight. The next size up by the same company sports two fans, yet is quieter. I opened mine up and modded it to include a Panaflo medium speed fan that is much quiter and barely audible now. As a battery backup, it is perfect, you can unplug it and nothing flinches, and it works perfectly. The readouts show perfectly what percentage of the current you are using, and alerts if you overload the battery. Also displays a visable display of how much battery is left when operating solely on battery power. All in all the best bang for the buck...

5Very Competent
By G. Carpenter
I bought this unit to supply power to a satellite modem for satellite internet. I had the modem on a standard UPS--you know, one of the usual with poor waveform output and poor power factor. Satellite modems not only have a receiver, but also a radio/microwave transmitter in the system. Well, after some trouble with the modem and a fix-it session that involved replacing the modem and radio, I decided that the isolation, pure sine wave, and filtered output of this device would be an advantage.I called Tripp-Lite and told them of my woes. Their customer service was exceptional and they suggested this unit. It is a bit over-powered, but is the smallest in its product type that they make. Tripp-Lite also furnished me with the names of their retailers, including Amazon.com.The unit was shipped in good order and arrivcd in good shape. This unit provides a very stable and continuous supply of power because of its dual-conversion: all of the power is rectified to DC current and placed into a battery. Then the battery power is inverted to provide AC current for use. The output is then further filtered and, I'm sure, the phasing of the current to the voltage waves is set so that the power factor is very high. This unit's over-all power factor is 0.8, where most run about 0.62 or so. What that means is that the unit, which is rated at 1000VA input, acturally can produce 800 Watts and that devices using the supplied power are isolated from any line spikes, noise, or voltage variation. The unit comes with a set of cables for different interfaces with your computer. I am using the USB interface cable to monitor the power supply and integrate it into my computer. The "Power Alert" software supplied is easy to install and when installed with the power supply already connected, automatically finds the unit, categorizes it, and makes some recommendations. Do check Tripp-Lite's website for the latest version, however. The AC outlet configuration is satisfactory. That is good, considering that Tripp-Lite does not recomment any extension cords be used, or power strips, either coming into the unit or going out of the unit. Not only might that overload the unit, but I am assuming that it might introduce a phase shift or power loss. A phase shift would mess up the pristine output. The only real negative comment is that, since there is a rectifier bank, there must be a fan to cool it and the fan was a tad noisy. It is otherwise rock-stable.I liked it so much that I bought a SU1500XL, a larger version of this one, for the rest of the computer.

4Too noisy for my application.
By Mark G. Leonard
This UPS has a cooling fan that runs whenever the unit is plugged in, even when its output is turned off.The fan can not be disabled, and is loud enough to be annoying in a home office setting. I'm returningit and buying a replacement with a fan that only runs when needed.
