This switch is very easy to install and will replace any mechanical float switch. The HC8000 Sump Pump Controller is a smart switch, that automatically adjusts to any pit size or pump capacity. It doesn't have a fixed on/off range, or a fixed run time, as many other switches do. And because its electronic it has many features not offered by other mechanical switches, such as high water alarm, motor failure alarm, run status indicator, and more.

I've been using this switch for over four years now, and it's simply bullet proof. It incorporates some really smart electronics to anticipate and alert the user about potential pump problems, like over current, short cycling, etc. It learns how long it should run to optimally drain any pit without running the pump dry, and it auto calibrates on a regular basis. Smart. No floats to get stuck, no unreliable pressure switches.After a power outage during a storm last year, I added a battery/inverter to my pump, and I found that when running on inverter power, the switch acted a little weird. I contacted the manufacturer and they told me that they had identified this problem and modified later units to fix this problem. I sent it to them and they updated the switch and replaced the sensor with the new style, all at no charge. Doesn't get any better than that!

I've already tried a float switch and a diaphragm switch in past, so I decided I'd research further into the subject and came across electronically controlled sump pump switches. In my particular case, I removed the diaphragm switch from a 2.5 year-old RIDGID SP-330D sump pump and attached this controller in less than one minute. Started working on the spot just as advertised.The beautiful thing about this mechanism is that it's not a mechanism!! No moving parts. You can adjust the level of water you want in the sump pit to allow your sump pump to run a bit longer to help prevent wear from repeated short runs.Note that STAK Enterprises sells a similar model that has two sensors so that one can adjust both the low and high level water marks.Highly recommend this as a replacement switch for your still-working sump pump.

This product works well and is easy to install. I prefer it to a float that seems to get caught up frequently.
