5The best original triplechanger, Astrotrain
By ®
I actually got the Takara version, which is pretty much the same. Astrotrain is one of the best triplechanger designs out there. I also have Blitzwing and he comes in second. One thing about this product is it is fairly small in term of toy product line. He is closer to the size of Jazz, but a lot slimmer in robot mode. He looks very realistic as a space shuttle and fair in train mode. Fairly quick to transform between any mode, only annoying part is hiding his tail rudder.Astrotrain is one of my favorite characters in the Transformer's storyline. "meet my friend, Mr. Ion displacer"-Astrotrain. There is also a grey Takara version out there which is more to the cartoon rendering. Looks just like the orginal Astrotrain that I played with as a kid.

5Transformers Generation One Triple Changer Astrotrain
By HavokH85
This is one of the ten Transformers that was always asked of Santa to bring me for christmas when I was kid. Never got a single one on that list :(. But due to recent events I was able to pick up an ORIGINAL G1 Astrotrain. He needed some work due to paint chipping and sticker wear and after hours of work I have him looking brand new again. While this review is for the Original G1 Astrotrain,I will also be reviewing the Commemorative Astrotrain as well and point out the difference from the original and the reissue.Astrotrain is very cool character. The coolest thing about him is that his is a triple changer. Parents if you're not familiar with this term it means that Astrotrain can transform into TWO different vehicles along with his Robot Mode. Astrotrain was first introduced in the Generation one episode Megatron's Master Plan.Well start with Vehicle Mode...well Train Mode first. Astrotrain can transform into a JNR Class C62 steam locomotive. This is also the ONLY mode that is accurate to the show being mostly purple and black. However on the Commemorative Astrotrain, he has been recolored all black to more reflect the real life train.I'm all about screen accuracy so G1 Astrotrain wins in my book. Train mode rolls very well and holds together well too. He's quite heavy for his size too due to the diecast metal parts. Speaking of size this guy is the size of a modern day deluxe class figure BUT sold for $20 bucks back in the day when the deluxe class that was the same size was only $10.Messed up huh? The stickers are quite different on the Commemorative Astrotrain too and I hate them. The original Generation One sticker sheet is much much better. If you do buy a Commemorative at least go to reprolabels.com to buy a nicer set of stickers. Astrotrain deserves it.And I promise they will look just as good on the Commemorative as they do on the original.Astrotrain can also transform into a space shuttle. This is probably my favorite mode. And the Transformation to get there was pretty darn clever for the time. I remember staring at the picture in the catalogue wondering how hasbro did it and how Astrotrain transformed. On the G1 Version Astrotrain is is mostly purple, with some black and white. The Commemorative, again reflecting the real life shuttle is mostly white with some black.G1 Astrotrain wins again in my book. The shuttle mode is really cool holds together well and rolls just as well.Transformation is super simple despite how complex he may look. To switch between train and shuttle your basically flipping him upside down.to get to robot mode it's a piece of cake.Robot mode. I love his robot mode. While it is disproportionate in areas (for example small arms compared to a larger body) He still looks great. he really isn't too poseable only being able to move his arms but...Hasbro wasn't as technologically advanced at the time.He wingplate does get in the way when you try to raise his weapon up but you can tuck the wingplate back into the chest and it doesn't really effect his look at all. As for the Commemorative series...there's not much I can say about it's robot mode other than horrible...horrible....and it's the new paint job and new stickers that make me think that. Go G1 if possibleOverall its been too long of a wait for this figure. I'm very glad I got my hands on one. Astrotrain is definitely one any collector should have.As I said Go G1 if possible. It may be cheaper too and youll get a better looking figure
