Great Picture, bad GUI, low on features
By Bosco
I have to say, the Vip211 DOES provide an awesome picture. It is sharp, clear, & crisp. In this regard, this receiver does its job exceptionally well. But I have to say that the graphic user interface (GUI) design, although moderately attractive, is organized horribly, and most obviously as an afterthought. For instance, to look at the Caller ID history, to check and see who has called while you were out... MENU - SYSTEM SETUP - CALLER ID HISTORY. Now, why I ask are these many steps, and on the System Setup menu no less, necessary for a feature that potentially is accessed so often?? I also find the steps for programming in a show for future viewing to be cumbersome and unintuitive. Lastly, the two day guide... TWO DAYS... it is merely ridiculous. I really believe EchoStar could have done a much much better job at anticipating usability on this unit. I admit, I miss my DirecTV Hughes unit of years ago with so many one-touch features, and 9 days of guide.UPDATE: Wow! Dish decided to offer for a $40 one time fee a complete software download that resulted in capability of attaching an external hard drive to the USB port of this unit, and voila!... 9 day guide on what is now an HD DVR. I can record 150+ hours on this thing. They just made up for the shortcomings!

HD Receiver for Dish Network
By Ftlaudgirl
I have only one flat screen HDTV, my others are regular TV's. In order to receive high def for the new HDTV, we had to get a special receiver. Being our credit isn't the best, this way was cheapest, to outright buy it.So far no complaints on this receiver! The HD is nice and crisp and now I wish I could afford to switch over all my TV's in the house to flat screens and make them all HD!The only issue I had was that I had to have Dish Network come out and switch the dish on top of the house, and set up the new receiver. I paid $148 for the HD receiver, rented a plain receiver, and paid a delivery/installation charge of $168. Maybe it would have been cheaper overall to stay with Comcast cable and just add on the HD for $10 extra a month. Live and learn!Again, this receiver is fabulous and was brand new in box!

GREAT JUST DONT BUY FROM KAKU10
By Kracranium
I GAVE IT 3 STARS BECAUSE I HAVE ONE PURCHASED AND IT WORKS GREAT BUT THE SECOND ONE I ORDERED GOT SENT FROM SELLER "KAKU10" WHO SENT ME THE 211K INSTEAD OF THE 211. THEN PROCEEDED TO ARGUE WITH ME (That is the only 211 receiver available for dishnetwork. There is no other version.) THAT IS AN ACTUAL COPY-PASTE FROM THE EMAIL HE SENT ME. LIKE I DONT KNOW WHAT I HAVE ORDERED. SO I HAD TO SEND HIM HIS OWN AMAZON PRODUCT http://amzn.com/dp/B000IB3486/?tag={ucomicscom} TO PROVE HIM WRONG.
