Product Description
ZyWALL 2 Plus supports IPSec VPN suitable for remote site to central server deployment and home to office or office to home deployments. Data encryption over the Internet ensures secure transmission between the two sites eliminating the need for expensive leased lines, and enabling global interconnectivity at a minimal expense. With the Redundant IPSec VPN feature, the ZyWALL 2 Plus can establish back-up tunnels to main sites. The ZyNOS ICSA Firewall certified ZyWALL 2 Plus provides robust firewall protection, based on Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) and Denial of Service (DoS) technology. The ZyWALL 2 Plus provides the first line of defense against hackers, and other malicious threats. BlueCoat subscription services assist in keeping spyware, malware and phishing exploits from attacking your PCs, and help protect business and family from illegal and unwanted surfing. ZyWALL 2 Plus maximizes bandwidth utilization based on IP addresses and/or application types. Designed to ensure critical applications, services and specified users have the right amount of bandwidth when required. ZyWALL 2 Plus increases reliability by supporting Fail-Over and Fail-Back technologies. User Selected back-up ISDN or Analog modem connections automatically switch traffic back to the WAN Port, when the primary connection is re-established. The ZyWALL 2 Plus backup feature ensures access to the net while decreasing the likelihood of potential down times and association losses. With the enhanced DMZ zone, SOHO can easily deploy their access server or WIFI appliance separate from the trusted local network (LAN). The DMZ zone has its own DHCP service and all zones are securely separated by firewall rules.

Excellent piece of hardware. Bought two of these for two different locations. Never goes down and maintains consistent VPN link.

Using these as satellite VPN devices to our main office running a Zyxel 35 firewall. They haven't been running a long time yet, but they were extremely easy to configure with or without the wizard and have kept steady VPN connectivity with no reboots for a while now.Mostly used for single remote workers, but in two cases they run a vpn out of offices of two and four users with perfect results. Data and VOIP travel over the VPNs. I've bought 13 and I'd buy more. Also pleased with the Zyxel 5 and Zyxel 35.

By Edward W. Demeulle
I had a few issues with the unit and ended up returning it. Since others seem to like the unit, I may have gotten a bad one.- The content filtering service timed out frequently with only 4 users on the network. The two options that one can set are either to block or allow. If 'block' is selected valid websites are frequently blocked until one hits refresh a few times. If 'allow' is selected then a potentially unacceptable website gets through at least temporarily. Either option was unacceptable.- The content filtering routines in the unit itself error out with a 'maximum simultaneous lookups exceeded' message, again with only 4 users on the network. The same untenable 'block' or 'allow' option dynamics apply in this case as well.- I could not achieve a speed test over 10Mb/s with the unit. I suspect the the WAN port isn't 10/100.
