5has paid for itself in the first year
By J. Barcelo
I placed the 3-function unit in an uninhabited "second home" that was for sale.Having always been nervous that the boiler would stop working, and that the house would "freeze", this seemed like a wise investment. The first time it called me it claimed the power was off ("beep beep").Upon investigation (a short drive) power was indeed off - for whole block. The second time it called me, it claimed there was a water problem ("beep beep beep").I ran over only to find that the boiler's B&G circulator pump had failed catastrophically. Water was running out of the point where the pump's motor joins with the pump (the shaft seal). Because I was alerted and able to get to house quickly, the cleanup required only a mop and bucket.I know people who are afraid to leave their homes in the winter "in case something happens". This machine should provide them with much comfort.Several issues:(1) The THP201 attaches to your analog phone line and calls out (to up to three pre-programmed numbers) when it detects a problem. If you have a standard "old fashioned" POTS line (i.e., copper loop powered by the Telco's central office) this is fine. These phone lines work w/o power in your house. If you have phone service via a cable modem, the THP201 will be less effective. If power fails, so too will your cable modem. The THP201 will not get a dial tone when it goes off-hook.(2) The unit comes with only one water sensor. This requires that you give a lot of thought as to where water is likely to collect in case of a problem. It would be better if the THP201 accepted two or three water sensors (sold as options). Then one sensor could be placed near the laundry room, one near the hot water heater and one, perhaps, by the boiler.(3) The unit has no alphanumeric display. Thus there is no easy way to verify that the phone number you entered is correct without testing the device.I would recommend that you do just that. It is easy to get a digit wrong (fail to press a key fully) and enter the wrong phone number. You can test it either by using the test button, or by unplugging unit's power cord (to simulate power outage) or by placing a wet sponge against the water detector.Leave the instructions with the unit; at some time in the future you will need to refer to them. The set-up interface is not obvious.

4Neat Gizmo with a few limitations
By a60490guy
I purchased this device to monitor the water level in my sump pump after a dual pump failure caused my basement rec room to take on 1.5" of water while I was out of town. I tested the unit by inserting the water sensor probe into a glass of water and it works as described by the manufacturer.I would have given the device 5 stars if:1) It allowed for a higher low-temp setting; I'd like to be alerted of a "no heat" condition before the temperature of my house drops to 45 degrees! I think 50 degrees would be more appropriate.2) It allowed for a 0-minute delay before beginning the alerting process. The unit will only start the alerting process either 5 or 30 minutes after the water sensor is tripped.3) The unit's water sensor included monitoring hardware suitable for attaching the unit to the 1.5" discharge pipe of my sump pump. I had to make an extra trip to the big orange home improvement center to find suitable hardware.NOTE: The unit will accept two water sensors by using a modular duplex adapter connected to the unit's water sensor input jack. The instructions don't mention this, but the manufacturer's tech support validated this capability. I will be installing a second sensor in the near future to monitor the lift sump in my basement and will update this review based on my findings.

3Just Ok For a Sump Pump Monitor
By R. Hoover
I bought this unit to monitor a sump pump in my basement so I would know if there was a problem with the pump, power outage and possible flooding. I would give it a 4 rating if I was only using the device for a remote location like a cabin. To monitor a basement sump where someone is home most of the time, there is some improvements needed. First, the instruction manual and box state that the unit comes with a water sensor with a 25 foot cord. When you open it up, the entire sensor and cable are only about 5' long. So it is off to the radio shack or WM to get some more phone cable and a connector.Second, the instruction manual states that an alarm will sound in the house 5 (or 20 depending on setting) minutes after a flood condition is detected and every 5 minutes thereafter. I tested the unit with water and after 5 minutes a tone alarm went off on the main unit. The volume is about half what a smoke detector would put out and lasts about 2-3 seconds. I then waited and it was 20 minutes until the next tone went off. I let the unit continue for 1 hour and every 20 minutes a tone alarm would sound. If your sump pump fails and you miss the alarm because you are at the far end of the house, then you basement would be flooded by the time you heard the next one. I would also like a 0 time option like the other reviewers. I belive this 20 min. delay was to preserve battery life, but I would think the logic would allow a louder alarm for a longer period when the unit is plugged into the wall and power is on. To get around this I leave my cell phone on all night at home to make sure I am notified of an alarm. This unit works great with the phone function, calling each number I had programmed into the unit. The unit was also easy to install and program.

4high quality product but some issues with remote control
By George Nevis
Overall, I love it. We got a huge sliding gate (probably around 700 lbs) and this device is moving it without any problem. Installation takes some knowledge but manual is mostly well put together. The manufacturer's website is very supportive if you run into any issue.I didn't give 5 stars cause:- manual lacking a proper troubleshooting guide, you have to visit webpage to get better advices- manual is outdated in some aspects, product not exactly the same as described in it (e.g. legs have changed)- some remote controls made by GTO not working with it, even when DIP switches set correctly (that's the main reason why giving 4 stars instead of 5), GTO's advice for the problem 'try other remotes'Despite the remote control issue, I highly recommend the product. Well designed, well put together and good customer support.[...]Update after one year of usage:Still very happy with it but discovered one more issue: the chain provided is low quality, mine started rust in about a month or so. It's standrad size, you can upgrade to some higher quality easy.Overall, the product is highly recommended, other than the rust on the chain I had no issue with it for a year. Just buying one more soon for another gate.

4Mighty Mule good item too bad missing parts
By Coppelltxguy
Do it yourself Installation is not for everyone. You need to be somewhat handy with tools and measurements,Took me two full days to layout the mounting location and install. The instructions are fairly easy to follow but you need to read them carefully.Main issue I had as that my box was missing some wiring and a chain clip.Nothing major but it meant a extra trip to the store and costs $12.Overall I like the unit. It runs quiet and no issues in the first month of use.

4Outstanding, with some minor caveats
By snowleopard
I have had the chance to use this camera a few times, plus compare it to some other HD cameras out there in it's price range, and came away impressed by a few aspects, and more knowing about a few others to consider. All in all this is a great little HD camera that takes great pictures right out of the box. It handles really nice, has a true microphone that comes with it, and the lens is great on it with it's 20x ratio. It's slow-motion, though at quality a little less than SD, looks fantastic and is great fun to play with. The camera's low light capability is not as good as the Canon XH-A1 in the same price range, or the Panasonic HVX200 (another $2k+), or as good as the older Sony Z1 (which doesn't shoot 24fps). Looking back, the Sony PD170, which was the low-light standard is about 2 stops better in very low light. But the V1u's low light performance is almost one of taste. The camera tends to give a little more fine grain in such low light, kind of like film in some ways. My guess is that this "effect" is pleasing to some people, who don't view it's low-light grainy issues as a problem. Test for yourself before buying. The display and viewfinder are very nice too. Very sharp, with great readout info, including histograms, making sure every shot is properly exposed. The camera also has a really nice automatic gain control. Much better than the Canons in it's price group. Nice focusing features too.The camera is also part of a larger packaged idea - it doesn't come with, but works perfectly with a portable hard drive (HVR-DR60) that allows you go HDMI out, for much less compressed picture (though most people will think going to tape looks fine) and those files can be dragged and dropped right onto your computer - no more capturing! The LED light is really cool too. Again, these are extra cost.Pros -Gorgeous picture quality in most all lighting conditions. Doesn't require a lot of tweaking, it looks good almost all the time right out of the box. But if you want to tweak, you can. If you want to really tweak, consider the Canon line-up.True 24fps, and true progressive chips, for filmmaking. Great film like gamma curves.Feels great in your hand. Very well balanced.True 20x zoom lens. The 30x digital zoom looks terrific!Nice zoom and focus ring. I was expecting lower quality.CMOS chips have very nice lack of smearing you see on most cameras that have CCD chips (those sharp vertical lines you see when taking footage of sunsets, for example) and the chips have a certain film like look to some more than other video cameras with 24fps features (including me).Comes with a true microphone - while not a $500 Sennheiser, it's better than most any other on-board camera, which is a nice extra.Slow motion, if lower quality, looks really cool (up to 240 fps!). Very usable for video going to regular DVD (not HD) or to the web.Cool HDMI out, with other accessories (not included) such as shooting to hard drive, or a neat LED light.Con's -Questionable low-light capability. If you're shooting a lot of night time shots, dark indoors (horror movies, dimly lit interviews) you really need to test and compare this to other cameras before buying. If you're shooting regular footage, especially a lot of outdoor, daylight, or professionally lit work, it shouldn't be an issue at all.Cost is about $500 more than Canon's comparable XH-A1 (which doesn't come with the microphone).Files that go to the HVR-DR60 HD are .m2t format, which must be converted if you're using a Mac (though still usable and convertible on the Mac).As good as the lens is, I believe the Canon is better, and has better image stabilizing capability. In summary, this is a great little camera for most uses, with a somewhat unique picture to it. Just about anyone going into a store to shop for one can easily compare this to similar cameras and see the features and issues I speak of. They should answer your questions right away whether this camera is for you or not. Finally, a price comparison:For $500 less, you can buy a Canon A1, which works better in low light, has more picture control, plus a better image stabilizer. But it's a little bigger, can't go HDMI out, has no slow motion, and doesn't come with a pro microphone. For $2k more you can buy Panasonic's HVX200, which has superior compression, and solid state capability, and slow motion in high definition (not down res'd, like the Sony). For $3k more, you can buy Sony's new XDCAM PMW-1, which is an extremely impressive camera with a superior picture to any of these cameras.

5Who should buy this camcorder?
By DVDzRule
I bought my HVR-V1U and have had it a week now. I am very impressed with the quality of video with very good light. In low light the quality of this video camera is poor. But after doing hours and hours of research I decided on this model for a few reasons.1) Size - This camcorder is about the same size as a VX-2000 with the same feel and pretty much the same layout.2) 24p - This camcorder can shoot film in true 24p which is great if you want to give your video that "Film look"3) XLR - This camcorder has 2 XLR inputs to put real good microphones on it if you want and comes with a $230 microphone.4) HDMI - This model has an HDMI out so I can quickly and easily with one cord connect it to my HDTV. The Sony HDR-FX1 doesn't have this.I think the slow motion feature is pretty cool to experiment with. But the quality is low and of course there is no sound when you do this.Everything on the camcorder is made very well. No cheap buttons or parts.Disadvantages: It has a 62mm lens. The bigger the lens usually the better the low light quality since the lens can let in more light. The battery that comes with it is ok, but you definately should buy the biggest battery you can get. My extended battery lasts around 490 minutes record time or about 690 minutes on playback mode. The extended warranty Amazon offers on this model for 4 years is only $199.99. That is a really good price for a camcorder this expensive.Bottom line: If you want all the features of this model but want the best low light recordings possible, then purchase the Sony HVR-Z1U camcorder which is another $600 or so. The XLR is worth it because sound is usually the weakest link when watching any video recorded on a camcorder.

5Best pro-sumer Sony yet
By David Esrati
I got burned on my VX-1000 with its 32K stunted audio, no firewire in and no manual zoom. The PDX-10 that followed was great- except for still missing a manual zoom. I looked really hard at the first HDV cameras- and decided to wait, and V1U was well worth it.Bought the Sony HD- and am totally amazed at how much faster my edit process is. The picture quality is phenomenal- but, we've mostly used standard DV since clients are quite ready to pay for HD.If you've shot with a PD-170 you'll find the form factor very familiar. Still not in love with the way Sony sets white balance- it's not really totally intuitive- but, overall- this is the best camera I've worked with. Friends who've borrowed it are gaga- and they are used to shooting with Sony pro cameras. As always- audio is the most difficult part of shooting with a prosumer camera- and the handle mounted dials are a bit tough to manipulate while shooting- but, all that aside- this camera is amazing. Also picked up Sony's LED light- it amazes me every time I use it- great light- no heat- and forever battery life. One thing about all the accessories- there isn't a really good solution to mount HD, Light, Wireless receiver to this small frame. We've bought a bracket off e-bay that makes it easy to mount at least the HD and wireless box to the camera- when the light is on- and the battery for the light has to be on the extension cable. Still- very hand holdable.Only thing I miss from the VX-1000 was my Century .55x plus fisheye reversible lens- haven't seen anything like it for 16x9 aspect ratios. If you've shot with Sony in the past- this is the camera for you.

3Great mouse except for...
By L. Johnson
The lithium-ion battery cannot be replaced, and it wears out. I think everything else about this mouse is terrific, but I use mice (I have three MX1000s) around two thousand hours a year and the MX1000's battery begins to die after about 18 months or 1500 hours of use. The one I use most now has to be recharged every night, or it will deplete. If I forget to place it in it's cradle, the next day it will run out of ions or whatever it uses--and I will have to find something else to do while it recharges. As an aside, after 25 years using mice, I've found that the best mice will "disappear" from my "thinking" when I'm working, and the MX1000 certainly does that.

4It's a great mouse.
By W. Gunn
I have the mx1000 laser at home and a crappy cheap optical at work. It's really like night and day. The laser is large enough to rest your hand on, yet you can still reach all the buttons. The buttons provide good tactile feedback when pressed, and aren't so close together that you press the wrong button by mistake. I was hoping that because of the good tactile feedback the click sounds would be greatly suppressed, but it clicks about as loud as any other mouse, which is too loud for me. The application switch button in the middle of the forward and back thumb buttons is very useful and not at all in the way. The weight of the mouse is great. The batteries give it enough ballast to make it easy to control and the teflon feet keep gliding smoothly without scratching surfaces. Battery life is just OK. It needs recharging every couple days, but to its credit it does let you know when the battery is low, and it does recharge fairly quickly.I don't like Logitech's software. It's ugly and bloated, but it does work and it is convenient to be able to remap the buttons to a wide variety of actions. I also think the mouse wheel click has a little too much travel or requires too much pressure, but it's not a big deal.

4Better than the other Logitech Mice
By Darren He
I just bought this mouse through a Gold Box deal - great price. Originally a gift for someone else, I've found that it's an improvement over the MX 610 I used in the past, and the MX600-like mouse in the MX3200 Cordless Desktop Set I currently use. Obviously, the greatest improvement is the ability to recharge the mouse, though I also realize that some people prefer to use batteries. In any case, there is a battery meter, as opposed to a mere batter indicator. Another pro is the fit of the mouse; though the mouse has a somewhat strange shape, it fits very well. However, I find that my MX610 is a little more comfortable to hold; for smaller hands, however, the MX1000 is a better fit.At the time of writing this review, the MX Revolution is the most advanced mouse from Logitech. I have used the MX Revolution a lot, and it also feels good. However, the MX Revolution has quality problems that this mouse will not have, simply because the MX1000 has fewer moving parts. You should expect all of these Logitech laser wireless mice to break down in a year's time, but the average life of the MX Revolution seems to be around three or four months. If you are heavy mouse user and want a truly indestructible mouse, a corded optical mouse is your best bet.Another downside of the MX1000, and all Logitech mice, is the necessity of using SetPoint to activate the extra features. I find it best to install as few drivers on my computer as possible, and I actually do not use SetPoint; the basic mouse features, complemented by the nice fit in hand, are good enough for me.Overall, recommended.

4Great addition for any Batman collection!
By F. Mejía
This is a great boxset which include four classic Batman action figures: Batman first appearance (This is inspired in the first Batman ever drawn by Bob Kane), Batman from the golden age, Batman from the Superfriends TV show, and a all-new classic vision of Batman inspired by Alex Ross designs. Also you get an original comic book from DC with classic Batman adventures. This giftset is a plus if you are a mature collector, my only complain is the selection DC Comics made about the figures. It make little sense to have the Superfriends Batman in the collection, because this Batman version is from a TV show, while the rest of the figures are straight from comic book pages. Then, when reading the comicbook, you only get one page (it is a cover from a supoerfriends retro-comicbook from year 2003)that justify this action figure to be in the set. If DC would have wanted to make a decent homage, they had more action figures to choose from the DC universe: Jim Lee's Batman, Ed McGuiness' Batman, etc.The Batman Superfriends action figure would have been perfect for a Batman animated collection from DC Direct, like Batman, the animated series action figure, Batman Superfriends action figure, Jeff Matsuda's Batman action figure, etc.I imagine Batman fans will agree with me. Overall, a great collectible.

I am a huge Batman fan and when I saw this box set,I had to have it! Okay, sure,I agree with the first review, there are somethings that could have been done better;however,it is still a great box set and I recommend it to all Batman fans! The first action figure (the way he looked when he first hit the comics) is my favorite! This is a great collectors item!

4Batmen!
By Kurt Schulenburg
This is a pretty good cross section of the Batman character as he's appeared in DC Comics over the years. Many of these figures have been released before as part of other series, but it's nice to have them collected in one group.I particularly like the 1939-1940 Batman, the different cowl and cape, the gloves, the whole style is so much more mysterious than subsequent incarnations.

5QUIET, STEADY AND WARM HEAT
By donny
I HAVE A 764 SQUARE FOOT OPEN FLOOR, ONE ROOM LOG CABIN WITH A 350 SQUARE FOOT LOFT/ BEDROOM OPEN TO BELOW. 1 HAVE 3- 1000W CADET HYDRONIC HEATERS PLACED UNDER 3 WINDOWS. WHEN THE OUTSIDE TEMP IS 30 DEGREES THE HEATERS KEEP EVERYTHING WARM AND TOASTY AT 65 DEGREES AND WARMER IF I PREFER. I PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE PURCHASED 3 1,500W UNITS AS WHEN TEMPS BELOW 30 HIT THE HEATERS HAVE TROUBLE KEEPING IT WARM WITHOUT RUNNING CONTINUOUSLY. NO FAULT OF THE HEATERS I HAVE. I LIVE IN OHIO AND MY SQUARE FOOTAGE REQUIRED 5,000W AND I'M SHORT OF 2,000W NEEDED TO KEEP AT MY DESIRED TEMP. NO HEATERS ARE NEEDED IN THE LOFT AS THE HEAT BELOW RISES AND KEEPS LOFT VERY WARM AND TOASTY REGARDLESS OF THE OUTSIDE TEMP. I AM USING 1 HONEYWELL WALL MOUNTED THERMOSTAT REGULATING ALL THREE HEATERS WHICH ARE ALL CONNECTED TOGETHER PER DIRECTION OF A CADET TECH SUPPORT PERSONS' INSTRUCTION FOR SUCH A LARGE SINGLE ROOM SETTING. I NEVER HEAR THEM COME ON OR SHUT DOWN, THEY ARE MOST QUIET HEAT I HAVE EVER USED. I RECENTLY PURCHASED AN EDENPURE 1,500W RADIANT HEATER TO USE ALONG WITH THE CADETS ON THE COLDER DAYS. I HAVE NOT TURNED THE EDENPURE ON AT THIS TIME TO SAY HOW IT ALL WORKS TOGETHER. I HAVE ZERO COMPLAINTS WITH THE CADET PRODUCTS OR THE SUPPORT FROM THIS COMPANY... DONNY MINOR

5More even electric baseboard heat
By LJF
The Softheat Hydronic Baseboard Heater keeps the room temperature more even than standard baseboard heaters and therefore there is no need to turn the thermostat up and down as the room gets warmer and colder.

5Great quality
By Jennifer Neddo
My son is 12 and has autism well his current obsession is godzilla, s he choose to purchase this and another plushy with his bday money, I was worried that they might be a little too expensive for a plush toy or cheaply made. Both are from the same company and they are great! They stand up to him and his two little brothers and he's in heaven, we will be buying more of this brand in the future.

3Consequences the game
By Karol Peake
This game is really mean't for little kids (up to age 5). There is not much to it and the we ended up giving "go back a space or two" penalties for bad choices that were made *while playing* the game. ie., making fun of your brother because he had to go back, gloating that you got to skip forward, tooting, belching, fighting, etc. That made the game much more fun. It is a good basic game, but don't be expecting anything more than a Candy Land type of game.

5MDF 797 DD Review
By Bones
After years of using an HP Sprague Rappaport, it became apparent that I needed a new scope. To my horror, not only had HP sold it to Phillips, but Phillips had discontinued it 6 years ago and no parts were available. As a family physician in full time practice , a team physician , working urgent care several times a month, serving with Medical Reserve Corps and Urban Search and Rescue, I need a scope that meets some stringent requirements:1) The acoustics have to be outstanding and equivalent to the HP.2). It has to perform well and survive in a variety of service environments, both noisy and quiet, clinic and urgent care / ER / field.3). It must be easily portable.4). It must be from a reputable company that would stand behind their work and would provide service and parts for the lifetime of the scope.5) It must be a reasonable cost.Having thought through these requirements, I tried 2 Sprague types that were on the market and was disappointed. The acoustics simply were not what I needed. To be fair, I did not try the MDF Sprague with the X design. My colleagues raved about the Litmann Cardiology 3. I found that to be costly, but more importantly, the acoustics were simply inferior to my HP Sprague ( as an older MD with tinnitus, the Cardiology 3 did not work). Finally , I came across a company I never heard of , MDF. After researching out the company and scopes, in sheer desperation I decided to try the ER Premier scope. When I compared it to the HP Sprague and the Litmann, it was the equivalent of the HP, the Litmann being a very distant 3rd place. Having used it now for a month in various settings, it meets my requirements superbly . The cost is reasonable ( particularly if you buy it through Amazon ). The company is sound and has a good track record for service and provides parts for the lifetime of the scope. AND-- I don't have to go with the electronic scopes !Who could ask for more ?

5Superb scope compared to rivals
By Carlos Morales
I bought this stethoscope 3 months ago now and I'm very impressed. The initial impression is stunning in this all black color! I was looking purposely for an all black scope, partly to distinguish from most others, and partly because of visual preference. I previously had the Littmann Classic II in black, and that was a decent scope to begin with. My interest focused more on being able to assess lung sounds more accurately, and determining the subtle differences in murmurs, thus the need for a dual or bi-lumen scope. The sensitivity of the chest piece is higher, sounds are louder and clearer by 2-3 points on a scale of 1-10 compared to the Littmann being a 6-7 on clarity and volume. At first the MDF scope seemed less comfortable than my Littmann, but now I've gotten used to the stiffer ear cushion pieces, however they are comfortable none the less. This MDF stethoscope is significantly heavier than my Littman though, mainly due to the use of more material to construct it. It also feels more durable than other dual lumen scopes; I compared my scope to one of my coworker's who has a Littmann Cardiology III, and her's has already begun to lose its shine and luster by turning opaque and dry-like in texture. Both her Littman and my MDF stethoscopes were purchased within 4 months difference in time but in new condition, and my scope continues to shine like when purchased. One downside to my MDF scope is that you sometimes have to tilt your head to position your ears while auscultating; depending on your position in relation to the patient's, you may have to 'nod' up or down to listen correctly. Final impression: well constructed, excellent acoustics, stealthy attractive appearance, all at an unbeatable price. It respectable alternative to a pricier Littmann or Harvey Tycos.

3Good sound but some design issues
By B. Drake
I'm an RN working CCU. I've had mine for a year. The sound is acceptable for general physical and lung/heart sounds assessment and the tubing is long enough for my needs. I can easily hear murmurs and bruits and faint lung sounds. But the stethoscope has some design issues. The heavy weight tubing is stiff and the connection between the diaphragm/bell is too loose for my liking. This combination causes the connection between the two to twist and lose it's ability to conduct any sound. I have to adjust my grip, angle, and sometimes ear pieces in order to get a good assessment done. This really slows me down, especially if a quick assessment is necessary. It's a durable stethoscope, but it's design slows down assessments. Also, the pediatric diaphragm is difficult to remove and put back on. It takes some bending and prying to get it right. I'm switching to an easily convertible stethoscope such as ADC or Prestige. I've given it 3/5 for its sound.

5Love this mic
By O. Padilla
I sang through a good ol' 58 straight to mixer for years and then I picked up a tc helicon create xt vocal processor end of last year, which wow....really added some clarity depth and sparkle to the 58's muddy profile. Whenever the processor was turned off though it really became apparent that I didn't like the sound of the sm58 on its own. so I went into Sam Ash to look for new mic, I was thinking Sennheiser e845 or a shure beta 87......Luckily the worker there turned me on to his favorite new mic and let me a/b them through the store pa with flat eq and no effects.I was blown away. Its got warmth, depth, clarity, punctuation, sparkle, and tons of spl before feedback. I can sing softly and get detailed articulation or belt out a high pitched chorus and get the sound of aggressive rock n roll! With this mic and the tc helicon my live vocals have never sounded better. The rest of the band still runs 58's and eqs with the mixer. The difference is night and day. This is a real hidden gem of a mic.

5Awsome mic!
By John Badyrka III
I am the producer of a radio show which we broadcast live from various locations such as bars, restaurants, music venues, etc. We had been using Shure SM58's exclusively. When I had a mic go bad, I went to Sam Ash to pick up another. A guy working there had suggested I give the Q8 a try and I have to say I've been hooked on them since. This one is another replacement for an SM58 that went bad. I, obviously, will be purchasing more of these as the old SM58's fail...or if I get too anxious, I'll try to sell some SM58's so that I can replace them with the Q8's. They are a bit heavier than the SM58's but the sound is worth it. They have a much warmer sound at nominal settings. And what was key for me is that they pick up much less background noise...which can be an issue at some of the places we do the show from.

5Best Handheld Supercard Dynamic In Its Class
By Grateful Fred
I went to Sam Ash to buy a decent dynamic mic for vocals to use while playing an acoustic guitar, and was pretty sure it was going to be the Shure Beta 58a. However, I a/b'd several other mics to compare and be sure. Several of them were more expensive than the 58, a couple were a little less. This comparison exercise went on for over an hour. One of those that were a little less was the Samson Q8 which was the last one I plugged in. Just as soon as I tried it, I knew it was a winner. But I told myself it couldn't be, it's priced 30 bucks cheaper than the Beta 58. But after further comparisons, it just seemed to have the fullest, warmest sound out of all of them while still maintaining great clarity...and just as much punch. I walked out happy with the Q8, and spent about 40 bucks less than I had intended.
